Mission, Values, & Beliefs

Our Values

About Us

At Sojourn Carlisle, we believe God’s Word is not just true—we believe that it's enough. Hence, we don’t need to dress it up nor do we need to water it down. We believe that the gospel has the power to change lives, and we’ve seen it do just that—starting with our own. That’s why everything we do, from the songs we sing to the way we serve, is anchored in Scripture and guided by our acknowledgement of God's grace (Identity > Function).

Here at Sojourn Carlisle, we’re not just about truth—we’re also about honesty. In other words, we don’t pretend to have it all together. We’re people who know what it means to struggle, to fall short, and to need Jesus every single day. So, we boldly proclaim God's Word with truth as well as transparency and we worship unapologetically with virtue as well as vulnerability, inviting others into the same freedom we’ve found in Christ.

Vision, Mission, Values

Our mission is simple: Engage the Lost. Equip the Church. Empower All.

Our values speak to what we prioritize in our spiritual development: We seek to be people who grow into Christlikeness (Maturity), who joyfully celebrate God’s beautifully diverse family (Multi-Ethnicity), and who live on mission wherever God has placed us, vocationally and otherwise (Missionality).

These values aren’t just buzzwords for us—they’re biblical convictions rooted in Ephesians 4:11–16.

And here’s the vision and heartbeat behind it all: We're a neighborhood church for neighborhood people.

We’re not here to build a Sojourn brand—we’re here to build up South Louisville.

We want to be a people formed by the gospel, shaped in community, and sent out with purpose—right here, on these blocks, among these families, for this city.

Together, by God’s grace, we’re seeking to advance his Kingdom here in South Louisville and beyond—one neighbor, one family, one step of faith at a time.

Our Beliefs

Scripture

God wrote the Bible through men and without error. (2 Peter 1:21)

Trinity

God exists eternally in a Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (2 Corinthians 13:14)

Jesus

Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He became a man, lived a sinless life, died on a cross, was buried, rose bodily from the grave, and ascended into Heaven to redeem sinful people. (Hebrews 1:3)

Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the supernatural agent who applies salvation to sinful people, regenerating, indwelling, sanctifying, and sealing them until the day of Christ’s return. (John 15:26)

Humanity

God creates all people in His image as uniquely male and female. (Genesis 1:27)

Salvation

All people are sinful and in need of salvation. Salvation is a gift of God, given by grace alone, and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. (Ephesians 2:8)

The Church

The church is both universal and local. (Acts 2:42)

Restoration

Jesus will return to earth to judge all people and to rule and reign with his saints forever. (Matthew 25:46)
